Skhidnytsia Community

About

Skhidnytsia Settlement Territorial Community is an administrative and territorial unit in the Drohobych District of Lviv Oblast, established through the amalgamation of several settlement and village councils. The total area of the community is approximately 420 km², with a population of over 19,000 residents. The administrative center of the community is the urban-type settlement of Skhidnytsia, located at an altitude of 600–900 meters above sea level in the Carpathian region. The community ensures the development of social, educational, and healthcare infrastructure, and also supports local business, tourism, and recreational activities.

Natural Resources

The territory of the community is located in the Carpathian Mountains, which provides unique natural and climatic conditions with forested areas, mountain rivers, and lakes. Skhidnytsia is well known for its mineral waters — there are 38 natural springs and 17 wells within the community, each with different chemical compositions of mineral water, used for recreational and health purposes. The area also has fertile soils suitable for agricultural use and large forest resources that are actively protected and rationally managed in accordance with the principles of sustainable development.

Positioning

The Skhidnytsia community is located in a strategically advantageous area on the edge of the Carpathians, making it attractive to tourists and investors in recreation, health improvement, and leisure. The community has convenient access to the nearest EU border (Krakovets border crossing, 106 km) and to the regional center of Lviv (103 km), which facilitates the development of international trade and logistics. Proximity to the Carpathian tourist region and a well-developed network of mineral resources position the community as a leader in specialized tourism and the wellness industry.

Geography & Logistics

The community is located in the central part of the Carpathians and has a developed road network that connects it with the main transport routes of the region. Connections with major logistics centers are provided through several routes: to Lviv — 103 km, to Kyiv — 655 km, to Lviv International Airport — 110 km, to Ivano-Frankivsk Airport — 157 km, and to Boryspil International Airport — 750 km. The nearest seaports are located at the following distances: Odesa (852 km), Chornomorsk (883 km), and Pivdennyi (895 km). The nearest railway stations are Truskavets (22 km), Drohobych (24 km), and Stryi (55 km), which ensure regular rail connections with major industrial and tourist centers of Ukraine as well as international routes.

Local Business

The foundation of the local economy consists of tourism, agriculture, and forestry. The mineral waters of Skhidnytsia and the developed resort infrastructure attract vacationers and medical tourists, stimulating the growth of the service sector, as well as the hotel and restaurant business. Agricultural enterprises operate in the area, focusing on cultivation in mountainous conditions with an emphasis on organic farming. Forestry activities are carried out rationally, with a strong focus on environmental protection and forest regeneration. The community actively develops green tourism and wellness tourism, creates new jobs in sectors related to environmental protection and recreation, and attracts investment for the development of infrastructure and services.
