Chairman Address

Yuriy Fomichev

Mayor of Slavutych community

The Slavutych Community is a vivid example of resilience, innovation, and European values in northern Ukraine. As the youngest city in the country, founded after the Chornobyl disaster, Slavutych brought together the efforts of architects and builders from multiple countries to become a safe, convenient, comfortable, and people-centered place to live. Our community boasts a high level of social infrastructure, active civic engagement, a clean environment, strong international partnerships, and years of experience implementing projects in collaboration with governmental, donor, and private organizations.

Despite the challenges of war, Slavutych looks to the future and continues to transform. We are developing modern economic sectors such as green energy, engineering, IT, and creative entrepreneurship, along with education and cultural industries. Our goal is to build a city of opportunities for investors, professionals, and new residents. Today, the community is actively focused on attracting investment, developing a future industrial park, launching strategic projects, and renewing infrastructure based on the principle of “better than before.” We invite partners and friends to join us in this shared mission — Slavutych is open to new ideas, investments, and collaboration.

About

Slavutych is the youngest city in Ukraine, built in 1987 as a new home for the evacuated employees of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and their families. From the outset, the city was designed as an innovative and environmentally friendly environment. Its architecture and multicultural layout represent a unique international example of cooperation — Slavutych was constructed by specialists from eight countries, giving each city district its own distinct national style. Today, it is a compact, welcoming city focused on sustainable development and smart urbanism, offering a high quality of life, strong civic engagement, and well-developed educational and social services.

Slavutych has become a platform for transformation — from a mono-industrial city built around nuclear energy to a hub of engineering, green innovation, and creative industries. It fosters an environment for the implementation of new ideas in the fields of science, energy, IT, social and environmental entrepreneurship, healthcare, and culture. The city actively promotes strategic planning, is a participant in the EU initiative “Mayors for Economic Growth”, and a signatory of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. Slavutych is also a national model for accessibility as part of the Ukrainian initiative “Without Barriers”, and holds the title of Small Cultural Capital of Ukraine. It serves as a platform for international cooperation, having successfully implemented over 60 international grant projects.

Natural Resources

Slavutych is located within the Ukrainian Polissia region, in an area characterized by high forest cover — more than 1,100 hectares of pine and mixed forests. The total area of the city is 2,083 hectares, over half of which is green space. The city’s level of greenery exceeds European standards by four times. The air quality in Slavutych is excellent, and the radiation level remains stably safe at 0.15 μSv/h (well below the acceptable norm of 30 μSv/h). The city has access to high-quality drinking water from 30 artesian wells, which are monitored daily in accordance with national standards.

Slavutych's developed natural infrastructure includes recreational areas, the Dnipro River (located just 13 km from the city), natural water bodies, sports and tourism facilities. These resources provide strong potential for the development of the IT sector, creative industries, eco- and smart entrepreneurship, green tourism, medical and wellness centers, and logistics hubs that meet high environmental standards.

Positioning

Slavutych is actively positioning itself as a co-working city, ready to implement innovative ideas. The community offers business partners: modern infrastructure, an educated population, access to industrial land, local government support, international partnerships.

The city has experience in attracting over $50 million in grant funding, which demonstrates effective management, transparency, and administrative capacity. Key sectors include: energy (traditional and green), social and environmental entrepreneurship, medical rehabilitation, IT, agricultural equipment manufacturing, food industry, light industry, and creative economy.

Geography & Logistics

Slavutych, while administratively part of Kyiv Oblast, is geographically located in Chernihiv Oblast. The city is situated near the Dnipro River (13 km) and is a unique exclave with a strategic location between Kyiv (188 km) and Chernihiv (56 km). It is connected to major international and regional highways (E-95, M-01, R-56), and has direct rail links to Kyiv and Chernihiv. The Boryspil International Airport is accessible within 2–2.5 hours.

Despite war-related damage to direct infrastructure links with the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (the bridge over the Dnipro River), Slavutych retains strong potential for recovery and the development of new logistics routes, including river transport. Business logistics opportunities are supported by 215 hectares of land designated for industrial use, as well as the availability of office spaces and warehouses.

Local Sector

There are over 2,000 business entities operating within the community. The main budget-forming enterprises include: State Specialized Enterprise "Chornobyl NPP", "Atomremontservice" Branch of Energoatom National Nuclear Energy Company, and businesses in the fields of construction, engineering, light and food industry, IT, agricultural equipment manufacturing, and farming.

Among the most active businesses are: VKF "Polytara", Vitava Company LLC, Technology Ukraine LLC, INVO Ukraine LLC, Perspektyva Slavutych LLC, Taurus Quadro LLC, Nova Kukhnia LLC, as well as grocery chains, local clinics, rehabilitation centers, logistics and trade companies. The Slavutych Business Park is actively developing. The city has a high percentage of IT-sector entrepreneurs (over 20% of registered sole proprietors), highlighting the community’s creative potential.
